Clean Water At The Home, 2007

In Taita Hills, the people go to the 'river', swamp to collect their water for the day. This water is contaminated and causes many types of sickness and disease. Because of the poverty, some of the people cannot even afford the fuel to boil the water before drinking it. The collection of water also uses up much of their day.

Some of the water source is travelled over by the animals and the people and sanitation is impossible due to lack of money and resources to boil the water.

In the  hills of Taita, there is a source of clean water, which the Europeans tapped into many years ago and ran a water line down through the village of Bura to the railway. In the past it has not been possible for many people to tap into this source of water because of lack of funds.

These pictures show the people of Bura, Taita Hills working to clear the bush, laying the water pipes, connecting to the clean water source and rejoicing in their first taste of the new water supply.
